Umeå Institute of Design at Umeå University are now looking for an Associate Professor to teach in Interaction design/Service design and perform other departmental work at the Institute. This is a time-limited position for 12 months, 50-100 %, and application deadline is 2019-07-08.
 
Job description
The position as Associate Professor includes teaching and tutoring, administration, development and other departmental work. You will teach in the areas of interaction design, service design, participatory design, co-design methodologies, and the role of design in social innovation processes. A part of the position is to uphold and develop good working practices relating to the planning and development work at the department.  You will also be contributing to a good working climate through collaboration with others within UID, at Umeå University and with external partners through all parts of the job.

This is a time-limited position for 12 months with a scope of 50-100%. Start of employment is upon agreement.

Requirements
Qualified to be employed as an Associate Professor is the one who has shown pedagogical skills and holds a completed degree of PhD, or has attained an equivalent academic competence, or has other professional skills that are of importance with regards to the subject’s content and the assignments in the employment (according to the Higher Education Ordinance Act). The subject area for the doctoral degree, or equivalent scientific competence, shall be Design.
 
Pedagogical skills should refer to documented experience of planning, implementation, examination and evaluation of teaching, as well as showing a reflective approach to student learning and the teacher's role.
 
The applicant should show a strong ability to articulate and reflect on design education, teaching as well as learning, in relation to the area of design and in a social context.You should also be able to formulate your own pedagogical vision or position in relation to the design process and the role of the industrial designer.
 
Scientific skills shall relate to achievements and recognized contributions within the subject area. The degree of scientific competence shall be assessed on the basis of independent scientific work published in internationally established scientific journals or other accepted academic forums and on the basis of conference publications and conference presentations that apply peer review. The ability to receive external research grants in competition will also be considered.
 
The applicant must present:
 
- the applicant should show a strong ability to articulate and reflect on design as a knowledge and practice field in a social context and to position your own design research practice in relation to this
- substantial experience of design research in relation to contemporary design practice, as well as good ability to reflect on the relationship between these and about changes and development in the design area
 
The applicant must show extensive ability to independently organize, conduct, lead and follow up projects, fluency in written and spoken English as well as excellent skills in collaboration and communication on individual as well as an organizational level.
 
It is considered an advantageif you demonstrate experience of collaboration with the surrounding community, planning and implementation of education, an ability to initiate, plan and lead multi-stakeholder projects, and knowledge in Swedish.
