Professor in Informatics
The Department of Informatics is recruiting a full-time Professor in Informatics.

Responsibilities
As a Professor of Informatics, the successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the continued development of the research environment at the department with a focus on the digitalization of the society. The employment includes initiating, conducting, leading and developing research and the research environment at the department and participation in the work to create good financial resources for research at the department.

The employment may also include administrative tasks related to research and education, collaboration with the surrounding community and information on research and development work.

In order to contribute to the goals of the department, the professor will lead research and develop the research environment at the department with a focus on society's digitalization. The successful candidate is expected to conduct independent research, collaborates with other researchers internally and externally, actively develops the department, and teach and supervise at the undergraduate, postgraduate and postgraduate levels. The professor should have a clear vision for developing this work in the short term as well as in the long term. The work also includes communication about research and development work, initiating and participating in planning research projects, and actively managing the work on applications for external research funding.
The location of employment is Umeå and an active participation in the department's activities is expected.

Qualifications
To be eligible for the position as a professor the candidate must have shown academic and teaching skills within Informatics according to Chapter 4, Section 3 of the Swedish Higher Education Ordinance and the Appointments Procedure for teachers at Umeå University.

Assessment criteria
The assessment criteria for appointment as a professor shall be the degree of the expertise required as a qualification for employment. Other assessment criteria comprise administrative expertise and cooperative skills. 

Academic skills are demonstrated through independent research achievements, evidence of the ability to plan and manage scientific activities, projects and research groups and proven ability to attract competitive research funding. Documented national and international research, publications in established journals/conferences and the ability to communicate research both within the scientific community and with the wider society are also being assessed. Skill in research leadership and successful supervision are also important.

Teaching skills refer to the applicant’s experience of working with students, demonstrable pedagogic progress, and perceived ability of the candidate to contribute to the advancement of the department's educational profile, including our doctoral program. This includes participating in postgraduate educational activities such as postgraduate supervision and involvement in the design and implementation of courses and seminars at the postgraduate level.

In assessing administrative skills, emphasis is placed on the ability to lead and develop our research and education environment and staff, experience of appointed positions at the department, faculty or university level, etc., as well as through generally well documented ability to collaborate both nationally and internationally. Great emphasis is placed on collaborative ability, creativity and commitment to the development of the department.

As the applicant should be able to carry out administrative and pedagogical work duties which require an understanding and use of the Swedish language, it is especially desirable to be able in a future to communicate in Swedish and English, both written and spoken.

Grading of assessment criteria
When weighing the various assessment criteria paramount importance will be attributed to scientific ability. Importance will also be attached to the pedagogic skills. The level of administrative and managerial skills, and science communication skills are accorded slightly lower weighing than the scientific and educational abilities.

About the department of Informatics
The department of Informatics consist of a total of around 45 employees that are teachers, guest researcher, PhD students and administrative staff. Informatics provides a dynamic research and teaching environment focused on digitalization of society within different kinds of application areas. For example we study the digitalization significance on public sector, organization of work, media, entrepreneurship, IT companies, manufacturing industry and trade and health care.

At the department we conduct education on three levels; undergraduate, master and doctoral level. On undergraduate level, we offer the three programs; system science with a focus on design, interaction and innovation, behavioral science with a focus on IT environments and digital media production. Our master level programs are in human-computer interaction and social media as well as IT management. We often interact in external collaboration both within our research and our education.
