The department of Culture and Media Studies is part of the Faculty of Arts at Umeå University, and has a broad educational and research field within the diciplines ethnology, cultural analysis, literary studies, the teaching of literature, media-and communication studies and museology. The department has about 60 employees and the unique combination of disciplines makes the department a creative milieu with an intersection of culture, literature and media. http://www.kultmed.umu.se

The department of Culture and Media Studies is looking for a postdoc in either media and communication studies, ethnology, museology or literary studies with focus on cultural and democratization processes.

Qualifications and evaluation criteria
A person who has been awarded a doctorate or a foreign qualification deemed to be the equivalent of a doctorate shall be qualified for employment as a postdoctoral researcher. For this position a doctoral degree in ethnology, media- and communication studies, museology, or literary studies, or the equivalent of a foreign degree, is required. A precondition is that the applicant has not previously been employed as a postdoc at Umeå University for more than a year within the same, or equivalent discipline. The degree must be completed no more than three years before the closing date of the application unless special circumstances exist (e.g. parental or sick leave).

The research qualifications are the primary basis for the assessment of candidates. The ranking of the candidates is based on the research qualifications and the relevance and quality of the research plan.

Good skills in Swedish or other Scandinavian language, is a request for applicants in literary studies.

A general assessment criterion is good ability to work with others, as well as the competence and suitability required in order to carry out the work duties successfully.

Duties
The postdoc position consists of two-year full time research, and active participation in the discipline’s research activities. Some teaching may also be included in the work duties.

The starting date of the employment is 2019-08-01 unless otherwise agreed.

The position is placed in Umeå and high personal attendance at the department is a requirement.
