The Faculty of Medicine, which consists of 13 departments, is responsible for biomedical research and courses in the field of nursing and health care and has an extensive research and graduate education in more than 80 subjects.

Project description:

We are announcing a temporary full time position as a Senior research assistant in the area of developmental neuroscience at the Department of Integrative Medical Biology. The position is in Associate Professor Sara Wilson’s research group.

The main focus of our research is to understand the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying the development of neural circuits in normal development, neurodevelopmental disorders and in cancer progression (https://www.umu.se/en/research/groups/laboratory-of-sara-wilson/). The project focuses on how mRNA splice regulation influences axon guidance.

The work is composed of:
(i) Research, which includes design, execution and analysis of experiments.
(ii) Lab management such as record keeping, management of the mouse colony, management of chemical safety within the laboratory and organizations tasks. The qualifications and technical experience needed to perform the work are outlined below.

Qualifications:

The following are the requirements of the position. The successful applicant should:

  • Have a PhD in Molecular Biology or similar.
  • Have hands on experience with molecular biology techniques particularly for studying RNA biology and/or neurodevelopmental biology.
  • Be skilled in molecular biology, statistics, and design and interpratation of experiments.
  • Have a qualification to work with research animals in Sweden although training will be given if this is lacking.
  • Have good organisation skills.
  • Be able to communicate with others in writen and spoken English.
  • The applicant must be abel to work both independently and within a team.
