The Department of Computing Science is looking for a Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor in Computing Science with a focus on Distributed Systems. The position includes, among other things, teaching, supervision and course responsibility. Last day to apply is 2019-01-04.

Work description
The work primarily consists of teaching and supervision, primarily within distributed systems and related areas, but some teaching within fundamental subject areas of Computer Science may also occur. Teaching includes course responsibility and associated administration. Furthermore, some development of courses may occur. Finally, the work will also include some research within the areas indicated above.

The employment is 50 % of full time, and lasts until December 31, 2019. Starting date is as soon as possible, but not later than March 1, 2019.

Qualifications
An applicant shall qualifiy for appointment as a Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor if she/he has demonstrated educational expertise and holds a doctorate or has attained equivalent academic competence or other professional skills relevant with regards to the subject area of the appointment.

The subject area for the doctoral thesis shall be computer science, distributed systems or a related area that is relevant for the employment.

Assessment criteria
In the selection of candidates, particular emphasis will be put on the degree of scientific and pedagogical expertise, which will be given equal weight. Furthermore, administrative skills as well as the ability to cooperate with the surrounding community will be considered.

Scientific expertise refer to:

  • ability to independently plan, organize, lead and manage scientific projects,
  • ability to develop new methods and apply them to new problems,
  • ability to competitively obtain research funding,
  • ability to collaborate with other national and international research groups, 
  • ability to initiate research collaborations, and
  • ability to communicate research to a wider community and the general public.

Scientific expertise must relate to the area of the position, that is Computer Science, with focus on Distributed Systems. Primarily, the topicality, excellence and originality of your research will be assessed. Emphasis will be put on scientific work published in internationally well-respected scientific journals and conference proceedings of scientific conferences that apply a peer review system.

The notion of pedagogical expertise refers to:

  • broad, deep and up-to-date knowledge within the subject area,
  • documented skills and experience to plan and conduct research-informed teaching and supervision at basic and advanced levels (first and second cycle),
  • ability to demonstrate a reflective attitude about your teaching, and
  • ability to establish good communication with and motivate students, and to pass on to them an enthusiasm and interest for the subject.

The successful candidate should be able to teach within the area of Distributed Systems as well as at least some other core courses in Computer Science.

The ability to cooperate with society is assessed based on your experience of cooperation with industry, society in general, and researchers from other disciplines.

Administrative skills refer to documented ability to organize research and education.

Ability to communicate clearly and fluently in English, both spoken and written, is a requirement.
