The Faculty of Medicine, which consists of 13 departments, is responsible for biomedical research and courses in the field of nursing and health care and has an extensive research and graduate education in more than 80 subjects.

We are looking for a project assistant within the project “The MUREINome: Deciphering Peptidoglycan Diversity and Plasticity in Bacteria”. The position is full time for six months and is placed at the Department of Molecular Biology, Umeå University. The position is expected to start in October 2018 or as otherwise agreed.

 

Description of work tasks

The recruited will focus on investigating the molecular mechanisms underlying bacterial cell wall homeostasis.

This is a pilot study (6 months) with the aim of investigating the potential of the project to be appropriate for a  PhD project.

Qualifications

Qualified applicants must have a Master degree in an area of relevance for the project, for example in molecular biology. The successful candidate must have a good working knowledge of standard molecular biology and biochemistry techniques (including DNA cloning, protein production and purification.The candidate must show proficiency in microbiology and basic microscopy methods. It will be particularly qualifying for the successful candidate demonstrated experience working with Burkholderias and particularly doing research on the bacterial envelope: peptidoglycan cell wall and lipopolysaccharide.
