The Faculty of Medicine, which consists of 13 departments, is responsible for biomedical research and courses in the field of nursing and health care and has an extensive research and graduate education in more than 80 subjects.
The Department of community medicine and rehabilitation comprises six units; Occupational therapy, Physiotherapy, Geriatrics, Sports medicine, Rehabilitation medicine and Forensic medicine, all involved in teaching, research and collaboration with society and health care.
Our research group at the Department of Community Medicine and Rehabilitation; Unit of Physiotherapy, studies human movement particularly following disease or injury.
The present position concerns mainly a project that addresses consequences and movement ability of persons who have injured their anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) compared to that of healthy people, including athletes. The focus is on human motion analysis using laboratory methodology involving three dimensional movement analysis (kinematics and kinetics) and electromyographic recordings. The project also entails various clinical assessment including questionnaires and scores and aims for the development of clinical assessment based on data from movement analysis. The project involves multi-professional collaboration with, among others, orthopaedics, radiology, biomedical engineering and statistics.
This PhD student position involves full-time doctoral education of four years.
Higher education (masters equivalent)comprising of 240 credits with a degree in physiotherapy or other subject relevant for the project, of which 60 credits at postgraduate level. Certified physical therapist/physiotherapist or similar, for instance biomechanical engineers or related fields. It is desirable that the applicant has experience of clinical work in musculoskeletal diseases, preferably within training and rehabilitation of knee injuries. Knowledge of biomechanics, mathematics and evaluation of movement control among persons with disabilities is important. Applicants should have adequate knowledge of anatomy and physiology. Experience of advanced laboratory-based motion analysis methods such as 3D motion capture, force recordings, electromyography and analysis programs such as Visual 3D or similar, as well as experience of data processing with statistical programs and scientific publications is advantageous. The applicant must be available to commence employment during autumn 2018.
