Group leader at The Laboratory for Molecular Infection Medicine Sweden (MIMS), Umeå University, Sweden.

MIMS (www.mims.umu.se) seeks excellent young researchers who are interested in becoming new Group Leader for innovative research in Molecular Infection Medicine.

MIMS intends to finance one new Group Leader appointment in the coming year, and funding is primarily for a five-year period, with the possibility of extension up to a total of nine years after external evaluation in the fourth year.

Applicants should have documented successful research in areas relevant to molecular infection medicine. The recruited researchers will receive extensive support in order to establish their own research group with participants at postdoctoral and doctoral level. Our Group Leaders are also expected to be able to supplement their research budget through their own national and international research grants.

MIMS Group Leaders are expected to conduct a successful research program in synergy with the multidisciplinary research environment that includes MIMS and also to participate in collaborations and joint activities promoting research and exchanges within The Nordic EMBL Partnership for Molecular Medicine (www.embl.de/research/partnerships/remote/nordic/index.html).

To qualify for employment you should have obtained a doctorate or has obtained corresponding scientific competence. You will also have undergone postdoctoral training and education in a relevant research area. Particular importance will be given to scientific skill. We are looking for talented early-career scientists who has already produced excellent supervised work, is ready to work independently and shows potential to be a research leader. We are preferably looking for candidates who have reached a career level equivalent to that applicable for applicants to ERC Starting Grant. Therefore, those primarily considered should have obtained a doctoral degree, or corresponding qualifications, no later than two and no more than seven years before the application.

The applications will be evaluated by external experts in a Recruitment Committee that includes faculty representing EMBL and the nodes within The Nordic EMBL Partnership for Molecular Medicine. A top ranked group of applicants will be invited to interview with the Recruitment Committee. The assessment will result in a recommendation to be forwarded to the MIMS Executive Board for decision which will be the documented basis for departmental affiliation and employment decision by the dean of the faculty involved.

The application should include the following:

  1. an introductory letter summarizing the applicant's career, previous research experience of relevance for molecular infection medicine and the future research career plans (1-2 pages),
  2. a CV with a list of all scientific publications (with the five most important marked),
  3. a copy of the doctoral degree certificate,
  4. a short research plan (5 pages maximum) with a summary of expected results and importance in translational and molecular medical infection research.
  5. names and contact details for three reference persons.
