Work description

The tasks consist of research and development in forensic medicine. The tasks also include teaching/supervision in the subject on the first-cycle and second-cycle programmes, primarily those in medicine, law and dentistry, although teaching on other programmes and courses as well as closely related subjects may also be included. The professor shall be an active researcher and shall also teach the subject at third-cycle level. The development of new first, second and third-cycle courses are also included in the tasks. Administrative duties and assignments within the Department and the Faculty of Medicine are included in the tasks.

The appointment is combined with a position as specialist doctor in forensic medicine, to cover 13 hours a week at the Unit of Forensic Medicine at the National Board of Forensic Medicine in Umeå.

Entry requirements and basis of assessment

A person who has demonstrated both research and teaching expertise as well as clinical expertise shall be qualified for the position of professor. In order to qualify for this position, the applicant must also be a specialist doctor in forensic medicine.

One of the assessment criteria for a professorial position is a sufficient degree of expertise to meet the eligibility requirements for appointment in accordance with the previous paragraph. Additional assessment criteria are the degree of administrative skills, expertise in developing and managing activities, and the ability to cooperate with the community at large and to provide information on research and development activities. The applicant shall have a documented ability to teach in Swedish and English. There may be special reasons why a person who is not able to teach in Swedish is still eligible, but in that case they expected to acquire this ability within two years of taking up the appointment. Active ongoing research in the field of study is a requirement.

As much attention shall be given to the assessment of teaching expertise as to the assessment of research expertise.

The weightning of assessment criteria

On appointment the weighting of merits will be as follows: research expertise (3), teaching expertise (2), clinical expertise (2). Additional assessment criteria are the degree of administrative skills, expertise in developing and managing activities, and the ability to cooperate with the community at large and to provide information on research and development activities (1).

Description of the assessment criteria

In assessing research, particular weight will be given to independent research initiatives in the subject of forensic medicine and the ability to plan and direct research and third-cycle studies, to bring in external research funding on a competitive basis, and to communicate the research to the community at large. In assessing teaching expertise, consideration will be given to the planning, implementation and evaluation of teaching, as well as to academic supervision and examinations. In assessing clinical expertise, particular weight will be given to experience and competence within the specialist field of forensic medicine. Administrative skills can be demonstrated through the ability to direct and develop activities, having experience in planning first-cycle studies etc, and the ability to collaborate with others as a member of one or more national academic boards etc.
