The Department of Mathematics and Mathematical Statistics conducts research in computational mathematics, discrete mathematics, mathematical modelling and analysis, and mathematical statistics. Our teaching is conducted at all levels and includes mathematics, mathematical statistics and computational science. Among our partners are international research groups, academic institutions, public organizations and companies.

The department of Mathematics and Mathematical Statistics is seeking to employ a research engineer in extremal combinatorics and/or discrete probability. Last application date is 2018-03-02.

Duties and responsibilities

You will work with Dr. Klas Markström as part of a project on extremal combinatorics financed by  ESSENCE.  In particular you will assist with programing of flag algebraic methods for extremal problems in combinatorics.

Skills and qualifications

Applicants must hold at minimum a master’s degree in mathematics or equivalent. A strong background in discrete mathematics, as well as excellent communication skills in both written and spoken English and the ability to work with others are required. Documented experience of work on the theory of flag algebrais as well as practical experience  of implementing programs for flag algebraic computation are rerquired.

Terms of employment

The position is full-time for 12 months, with a starting date to be agreed on by the successful applicant and the department.
