The Faculty of Medicine, which consists of 13 departments, is responsible for biomedical research and courses in the field of nursing and health care and has an extensive research and graduate education in more than 80 subjects.

Description

Starting in early 2018, the Unit of Epidemiology and Global Health (Department of Public Health and Clinical Medicine), and CEDAR (Centre for Demographic and Ageing Research) at Umeå University will conduct an interdisciplinary research project on the health effects of weather types in Sweden. The project is a cooperation with researchers at Kent University, USA.

We are now looking for a postdoc to conduct the major part of statistical analyses on the association of different oppressive weather types, based on the SSC (Spatial Synoptic Classification), with total and cause-specific mortality and hospitalizations in the Swedish population.

The postdoc will work with a small team of researchers in epidemiology / biostatistics (Umeå University) and climatology (Kent University). Tasks include working with population register data at CEDAR and weather data from four Swedish cities using time series analyses and other statistical methods.

Eligibility

A person who has taken a doctoral degree in epidemiology or public health or a related discipline, no later than three years before the last date of the application is qualified to apply. 

Applicants should have competence in epidemiology and quantitative data analyses, for example with STATA. They also should have good skills in written and spoken English. Applicants will be further judged on their scientific skills, experience in environmental epidemiology, handling register data and working in an interdisciplinary setting. Experience with the software R is a merit.

The postdoctoral position is a full time (100%) two-year position.

The employment is expected to start in April 2018. The postdoc will be affiliated both with CEDAR and with the unit of Epidemiology and Global Health.
