HPC2N, Umeå University, is one of the leading national supercomputing centers. We are currently seeking a qualified staff for systems development in one of the national projects that we are involved in.

Job Description

The main working tasks include system development, maintenance and some operations of the software and systems used in SNIC’s SUPR/SAMS project, where HPC2N leads and manages the work and activities of the subproject SNIC Accounting and Metrics System (SAMS). User support is an important part of the activities. To work in other development projects at HPC2N may also occur.

In 2017, one of the major tasks within the project includes to survey and develop tools for collecting data concerning the software used in SNIC. The duties also include deployment of the developed tools, and to provide support to all SNIC centers that report to SAMS.

We work primarily with Linux (Ubuntu and RedHat), but other operating systems exist.

Keywords that occur in the project include: Linux (Ubuntu, Debian, RedHat, CentOS), GPGPU, Intel KNL, HPC, Queue system (SLURM), parallel file system (Lustre), AFS, dCache, Python, Django, Twisted, Perl and also other programming languages like C, C++, Java, etc.

Qualifications

Master of Science in Computing Science or equivalent.

Documented experience as a software developer. Experience in programming in Python, Perl, SQL, C is a requirement. Experience from operation of parallel computer systems and queuing systems is an advantage. Experience of different web-frameworks to Python (especially Django) is desirable.

Since most of the work will be done in an international environment, a high level of proficiency in both spoken and written English is a requirement.

Requirements also include the ability to independently plan, organize, document and follow up on your work, but also on social skills and ability to communicate with colleagues and users.

High Performance Computing Center North (HPC2N) is one of Sweden's leading supercomputing centers, and one of six centers in the Swedish National Infrastructure for Computing (SNIC). HPC2N is based at Umeå University, and is a joint venture between the Swedish Institute of Space Physics, Luleå University of Technology, Mid Sweden University, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, and Umeå University.

HPC2N is operating high-performance parallel computer systems and networks, large-scale disk and tape storage systems. We work closely with researchers to be able to utilize our resources in the best possible way.

Our newest computing resource, Kebnekaise is Sweden's most modern computing system, with the latest generation of Intel processors, both Broadwell Xeon and Xeon Phi (Knights Landing), NVidia GPUs and nodes with up to 3TB of memory. All coupled with a fast InfiniBand network.
